Pensacola Beach Oil Spill First Signs.

Pensacola Beach was swarming with news vans equipped with satellite hook-ups and parking passes this afternoon. I’d say it was a little sensational, as the crowds at the Dock ‘oohhhhed & aahhhhed’ at themselves on live TV being played back through the tv set up in the Dock bar. No oil to report, just watched everyone watch themselves. I decided to head west to Ft. Pikens to snoop around/soak up the beach. I went for 1/2 mile walk then turned back to find this:

If you can, head out there now. Enjoy it while you can, then concentrate on BP.

Painting With Light.

30 second exposure with my Canon 7D, which gave me time to paint light with a flashlight. It’s a fun/simple trick to shoot at night and it feels and works like spray painting.

Cold Windy Surf – Pensacola, Fl.

Posted on March 4, 2010

Photography, Surfing

Another storm rolled through and the surf picked up this past Tuesday. I was able to shoot a few quick shots then head out for a few waves. Fun but very cold. I need a new wetsuit.

Ft. Pickens is back

Posted on August 7, 2009

Lifestyle, Photography

The weather is cooling off, the summer crowds are thinning and the time for locals to reclaim the beach is here. My wife and I headed out to Ft. Pickens last night. It was beautiful, not to mention free. We watched the sunset and moon rise.

Here’s a few photos:

Blackwater State Park and the need to unplug

Posted on July 14, 2009

Lifestyle, Photography

While doing some research on the Santa Rosa area for work, I stumbled across an old campsite out at Black water river state park using google maps. After the hurricanes many of the spots I used to visit are inaccessible. I’m planning on taking my family camping this fall and I wanted to find a secluded spot away from the Black water hustle and bustle, which there can be sometimes. So I did some recon yesterday. It was pure speculation, using google maps as my only indicator. I scored. Found an amazing spot with two huge sugar white beaches, deep river sections and not a footprint to be found. It was great to be back out there. It’s an amazing resource we have. Below are a few photos of the day.

Adios Elcano

Palafox Pier was packed with thousands of onlookers biding farewell to the Elcano yesterday. In my twenties this would’ve been such a “yawner”. But 32 now and eventually wanting a sail boat, it was impressive to see the massive ship set sail.
